The cowboy wears chaps over his jeans to protect his legs from the cactus, brush and rocks.
Chaps are made of leather and come in many different styles. Shotgun chaps have narrow legs. Batwing chaps, like those worn by the bullriders in the rodeo, have wide legs. Equitation chaps usually have fringe on them and the horseshow rider generally prefers this style of chap. Cowboy chaps also are available made from angora goat hair or the wool from sheep. This style of chap is called a Woolie.

To determine your size, measure around the thicket part of your thigh (with your pants on) and use this chart to order your size:
XS 22" Thigh
Small 23" Thigh
Med 24" Thigh
Large 25" Thigh
XL 26" Thigh
2XL 27" Thigh
3XL 28" Thigh
4XL 29" Thigh
5XL 30" Thigh
All chaps have waist adjustment in the front and in the back. Please remember that chaps are NOT worn around your waist, they set slightly under your belt loops, just below your waist.
Taking Your Measurements for Fringed Western Chaps:
Hip- Where the chaps are worn
Upper Thigh - Measure at heaviest part of thigh
Mid Thigh - Measure half way between upper thigh and knee
Knee - Measure around knee
Calf - Measure around wide part of calf
Outseam - Top of chap to floor with boots on
Inseam - Crotch to floor with boots on
Hip to Thigh - Top of Chap to crotch
Thigh to Knee - Crotch to knee
Chap Waist - Measure at bottom edge of belt
